Online Banking Insurance
SingSaver had worked with Allianz to offer customers of SingSaver a three month free coverage of online banking insurance.
From 22nd July 2020 till 31st Aug 2020, each customer who sign up with SingSaver will receive three months free coverage of online banking.
Why the Need For Online Banking Insurance
As we embrace more of digital technology, more of our digital accounts are protected by passwords or pins. Here are some common practices which make our accounts more vulnerable to hackers or online attacks:
- Using a simple password which is easily guessable, e.g. ‘1234’, ‘password’, ‘admin’ etc.
- Using the same password for all your accounts
- Not setting up two factor authentication
There are a few common ways to improve the security of your account, simply by:
- longer alphanumeric passwords with symbols
- different passwords for each account
- Setting up two factor authentication
There are password managers like lastpass or you could use the icloud keychain or google password manager to store all your passwords in one place.
However, with the recent COVID pandemic, there has been an increase in phishing scams and attacks. You could also lose your device and have your accounts hijacked. Even two factor authentication is breakable, e.g. hijacking of Twitter’s CEO account, hackers stealing bitcoins from binance etc.
There is always a risk of your accounts being hacked and risk of losing your digital financial assets.
Hence, the online banking insurance is underwritten to protect againsts these risks.
Features of the online banking insurance
The online banking insurance will insure financial loss as a result of cyber fraud or attack. Here is a snippet of the policy langugage:
If unauthorized third parties obtain access to the insured’s credit card(s), debit card(s) and/or bank account(s) via Electronic Device(s) on the Internet as a Cyber Attack and subsequently make use of such access for any unauthorized transfer of money for the purpose of obtaining goods, services and/or money, directly and solely results in a Financial Loss.
The amount insured is up to
- $1000 per event; or
- $2000 per beneficiary
